After withdrawing from the Raiders’ OC job, Kliff Kingsbury has opted to take the Commanders OC role under new head coach Dan Quinn
ASHBURN, MD– Kliff Kingsbury has been hired as the offensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders. Kingsbury, 44, has had a rather interesting offseason, originally planning to take the offensive coordinator job in Las Vegas but backing out at the last second. The reasons for his impromptu timing are unknown, but what we do know is that Kingsbury will be calling plays underneath newly hired Commanders coach Dan Quinn.
Kingsbury had been prominently around the game of football for a while now, rising to fame in Lubbock, TX with his relationship as Patrick Mahomes’ coach. After serving his time at Texas Tech, Kingsbury was viewed as one of the next comings of great football minds, taking the head coaching job with the Arizona Cardinals. Kingsbury’s time in Arizona didn’t last very long though as his tenure in Glendale only lasted three seasons.

Kingsbury comes to Washington from an offensive assistant role at USC where he worked with another unicorn quarterback prospect– Caleb Williams. Kingsbury was viewed as a coach who could make an NFL return for a while now, and will try to bring an anemic Washington offense back to life.
He will inherit a ragtag offensive cast, one that features stars at receiver– Jahan Dotson and Terry McLaurin, but without anyone to throw the ball to them. Sam Howell, the Commanders’ quarterback for the majority of the season, led the NFL in interceptions with 21. On the bright side, the Commanders hold the number two overall pick in the draft, possibly a key component in Kliff Kingsbury’s switch to DC.
For the Commanders, Kingsbury’s presence is good enough for a team that has struggled to find a franchise quarterback in the last decade. His reputation as a quarterback guru is good enough and holding the second pick may bring speculation that the team might try to trade up and select Caleb Williams, reuniting him with a college companion and a supposed QB whisperer.
Kingsbury has a 28-37-1 record at the pro level, making him anything but a savant. However, the move brings some much-needed light to a Washington franchise that has seen nothing but darkness as of late.
