Michigan Wolverines star RB Blake Corum is due to miss spring ball while continuing to nurse his knee injury from 2021
ANN ARBOR, Mich.– The Michigan Wolverines spring practice schedule just got much more interesting with news of star running back Blake Corum set to continue rehabbing his knee injury suffered in the 2022 season. Corum is not due to miss any time in 2023, but it does become interesting when you take into account Michigan’s set of understudy backs will take the spotlight come March and April.
Corum is set to be back to full strength in June, but is taking the precaution at word of his doctors and medical staff.
“He’ll get a full summer cycle,” head coach Jim Harbaugh said of Corum.
Corum being full strength will be a breath of fresh air for a Michigan team who’s seen a fair share of turmoil and near-turnover through the offseason. Jim Harbaugh was due to sign with an NFL team for a head coaching gig before ultimately making the decision to return to the University of Michigan. Key players like Cornelius Johnson have also made the decision to stay despite getting pro attention.
Michigan is also reeling from a coaching fire in co-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss along with an NCAA investigation into a Harbaugh related recruiting incident.
JJ McCarthy will continue to spearhead a potent Wolverine offense along Corum come August. Corum suffered a meniscus tear in the first half of Michigan’s win over Illinois on Nov. 19. The running back tried to play through it the following week against Ohio State but was relegated to two carries before him, training staff, and coaches decided it was best to call it quits.
Michigan’s backup running backs Donovan Edwards and CJ Stokes will take the brunt of the force during spring ball. Edwards was a standout back in Corum’s absence with 991 yards and 7 touchdowns.
