Colorado QB JT Shrout Hits Transfer Portal

Boulder, CO– University of Colorado quarterback JT Shrout has entered the transfer portal amidst rumors of him leaving. Shrout, who originally started his college football career in Knoxville, at the University of Tennessee intends to make his third stop somewhere other than Boulder.

Shrout didn’t exactly dazzle during Colorado’s abysmal 1-11 season in 2021. Throwing for 1,220 yards through 9 games in the PAC-12, it wasn’t enough for him to feel safe amongst outspoken new head coach hire Deion Sanders. Sanders infamously spoke to the team during his first days on campus stating that, [he’ll be bringing] his own baggage, and it’s Louis.”

Alluding to his previous stop at Jackson State, Sanders has started a recruiting frenzy to Colorado, one that Shrout felt it was no longer the optimal place for him to play quarterback at. Shrout has one year of eligibility left pending a medical redshirt pertaining to an ACL tear during fall camp in 2021. Shrout has shown flashes of potential, yet hasn’t done enough for any big name teams to take a shot on him nor for Sanders to keep him around with the Buffs.
