The Minnesota Vikings get that much thinner at DB after second-year CB Mekhi Blackmon tears his ACL, sources say.
EAGAN, MN– Vikings’ 2023 third-round draft pick Mekhi Blackmon has torn his ACL during practice according to sources. Blackmon came out of USC one season ago and had a solid rookie season, he recorded 41 total tackles and one interception in his initial year with the Vikings.
Blackmon was expected to be a larger piece of the Vikings secondary, one that was already exceptionally thin going into camp in 2024. Blackmon’s practical size and speed were key components that led some in the building to think that he might’ve been able to nab the CB 3 spot this season.

Now, that vision is gone as Blackmon will be out for the majority of the season if not all of it. Shaq Griffin and Byron Murphy Jr. are the two bigwigs at the position for the team. But the room lacks any depth especially after Khyree Jackson’s tragic death.
The Vikings will start to look into veteran free agent options closer to the season and will have to sign some more undrafted talent.
