The 28 year old quarterback has just landed a role with the Denver Broncos amidst Sean Payton’s new regime
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.– Just last season we saw Davis Webb line up for a professional football game against the red hot Philadelphia Eagles. Now, he’s the new quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos.
If that paragraph caught you off guard, imagine how the rest of us feel. Coming completely out of left field, the 28-year old quarterback is the latest to join newly-hired head coach Sean Payton’s posse in an attempt to turn around the ship that has gone three sails to the wind as of late. Webb will now attempt to relate to the Broncos outspoken quarterback Russell Wilson, who in 2022 came over from Seattle in a blockbuster trade that had the entire QB position in awe.
However, Denver seemed to get the short end of the stick, with Wilson showing evident signs of regression. The Broncos finished 5-12 and at the bottom of the AFC West. Their awful performance ended up causing serious casualties in the coaching department, with Denver’s higher-ups choosing to clear house after just one season of then head coach Nathaniel Hackett’s reign.
Now, Webb will seek to try switch gears from being a backup quarterback to a coach. While out of the blue, for Webb, this isn’t new news. Instead, Webb had been considered for several quarterback coaching jobs in the past. In 2021, when Davis Webb was rostered with the Bills, he was considered a serious candidate for Buffalo’s position. However, he was never offered and remained Josh Allen’s backup.

After following offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to the Big Apple in ’22, Webb might’ve been able to secure a role there if offensive coordinator Mike Kafka chose to take a coaching job elsewhere. Kafka received a lot of buzz, but nothing came to fruition yet. Kafka’s departure would’ve probably elevated current QB coach Shea Tierney to OC, while Webb would’ve fallen into the position coaching role.
Yet, Davis Webb despite the reprisal in scenarios, Webb ended up halfway across the country in Denver. Webb, who was drafted by the Bills in 2017 from Cal only started one game. Last season in 2022, with the Giants already haven locked up a playoff spot, Brian Daboll decided to give Webb the go-ahead. The quarterback ended up going 23-of-40 for 163 yards and a touchdown against a very good Eagles defense. Despite the 16-22 loss, Webb landed a role on one of the most attention-drawing offenses in the league.
