Ann Arbor, MI– All hail the Big Blue, Michigan’s leading wide receiver from 2022 Cornelius Johnson will come back to Ann Arbor for his final bow.
The news comes after head coach Jim Harbaugh announced he would be staying at the University of Michigan despite enticing NFL job interest. Johnson, who led the team in touchdown receptions with six was reportedly undecided about his future in the maize and blue, and could’ve been lost alongside number one wide receiver Ronnie Bell and tight end Luke Schoonmaker.
The 6-foot-3 receiver from Greenwich, CT accounted for 32 grabs and 499 yards, was WR 2 on a team that made a deep postseason run, winning the Big Ten and making it to the college football playoff. The team subsequently lost to a TCU team which sent them to the National Championship Game however, many people thought the offseason would be worse than the heartbreaker with the Horned Frogs.
Michigan loses the aforementioned key players but retains several cornerstones of the team. With Coach Harbaugh decidedly bastioned in Ann Arbor, many players, like Johnson feel confident about coming back, helping off the fence. The Wolverines will keep outspoken star back Blake Corum and guards Trevor Keegan and Zak Zinter, tools for quarterback JJ McCarthy to use as he begins his junior campaign.
Perhaps another reason that group was swayed was due to Valiant Management Group’s “One More Year Fund”, which sought to bring back important players to the Wolverines with a pool of over $100,000 raised.
